that night wasn’t silent
history split
down the middle

and even the stars
parted ways-

A young lady
walking those quiet streets
looking,
no vacancy
no vacancy

it wasn’t silent-
the cane on the cobbles
the stares on them-
a couple walking
the coldness
penetrating
her pain growing,

it wasn’t silent.
The stall
animals and straw
a courseness,
no midwife
no help

only pain
and tears
falling on dry straw,

not a silent night,
indeed,
it was not silent.

When the waves stop,

when the ripples cease their play,

undulation, undoing, unravel,

I reflect the simple

surface,

the untouched

crowd of atoms,

that mirror,

mirage of saneness,

One I pretend stays

with me, but won’t,

maybe a moment,

maybe a jape in time,

for now,

I’m waiting

for waves to stop.
